Mineral hills and an open bay
One municipality with an inland town and a working port
Mazarrón's historic centre stands about five kilometres inland among hills worked for alum, ochre, lead and silver. Puerto de Mazarrón is a second centre on a broad Mediterranean bay, with fishing, archaeology and beaches gathered around its harbour.
West of the port, Bolnuevo's fragile layered gredas introduce a coast of dry headlands and coves. Seen from the water, that shore also makes the municipality's eastern boundary with Cartagena much easier to understand.
